How to ... Matcha Tea

My first impression of drinking matcha was unexpected. I thought that when drinking the whole leaf the result would be a bitter drink but on the contrary I found myself with a sweet drink with a subtle flavor.

The matcha tea combines very well with different types of milk and can be used in pastries and smoothies.

How to... Red Eye, Black Eye and Dead Eye.

**Español abajo**

Red Eye                    Black Eye               Dead Eye

The other day came to the coffee house some tourist from E.E.U.U. and they asked for a Red Eye!

Imagine my face! What? Red eye?

In this situations two life lessons comes to my mind, one from my Dad and the other from Vicente Castillo and his professionalism teachings.

Better be ignorant one time than whole life.

Be humble and tell customer that you don’t know how to prepare the drink and ask nicely if is willing to teach you.

So, after my surprise face I apologize myself for my ignorance about the drink and how to prepare, they smile and they taught me how to do it!

The base of this three drinks is a filter coffee

Now we go back to the post subject!

Red Eye is filter coffee  + one espresso.

Black Eye is filter coffee + two espresso.

Dead Eye is filter coffee + three espresso.

Red Eye                    Black Eye              Dead Eye

El otro día llegó a la cafetería un turista de E.E.U.U. ¡y pidieron un Red Eye!

¡Imagina mi cara! ¿Qué? ¿Red Eye?

How to... Bulletproof coffee.

The first time I heard about Bulletproof Coffee was in March of last year 2017, just arrived in Iceland to start my second season in this fascinating country.

Was my co-worker at Rjukandi Hotel, Ölof, who told me about a magical drink that cure hangovers and that gives you a powerful boost of energy at the same time that it helped you to be focused.
Enough data to feed my curiosity ...

The searching.

Instead of looking on the internet, as we all do nowadays, I decided to ask my friend Katrin from Kaffi Kyrrð and bingo!
She, not only knew about the drink! She drinks it every morning!!

A bit of history.

Katrin told me about David Asprey and his trip to Tibet where he drank a drink that gave him a lot of energy ... That's when I connected the dots.
I read a wonderful book, The Third Eye of Lobsamg Rampa, where he speaks about a drink that they take there based on green tea and Yak butter. The book also teach myself that in the tibet the water does not boil to 100ºc but to 80ºc, but this is a topic for a future post.

Returning to the Bulletproof Coffee and summarizing, David Asprey did his research and adapted the drink to a mostly coffee drinker western world , replacing the tea for mold free coffee, and yak butter for grass-fed cow’s butter and the final touch the Brain Octane Oil (coconut oil).

Recipe from David Asprey

  1. It all starts with the beans. Brew 1 cup (8-12 ounces) of coffee using filtered water with 2 ½ heaping tablespoons of freshly ground Bulletproof Coffee Beans. Use a French Press for ease of use and to preserve beneficial coffee oils that paper filters keep out.
  2. Add 1 teaspoon to 2 tablespoons of Brain Octane Oil. You’ll learn much more about Brain Octane Oil below, but keep in mind that this stuff is powerful. Start with 1 teaspoon per cup and work your way up to 1-2 tablespoons over several days.
  3. Add 1-2 tablespoons of grass-fed, unsalted butter or grass-fed ghee.
  4. Mix it all in a blender for 20-30 seconds until it looks like a foamy latte.

My way.

I prepare it with an American coffee, unsalted butter, coconut butter and two different ways if I have a blender or not.
Without blender: I put the ingredients (butter and coconut butter) in a jar with a little milk. I prepare the American coffee and emulsify the contents of the jar with the steamer then add to the American coffee cup.
With blender: Mix all the ingredients in the blender glass and mix it until you get a creamy drink (without milk).

My thoughts.

There are chemical terms that scape my knowledge but one thing it's true, bad coffee makes you weak and the best thing is to experiment myself.
In my case the results were fantastic!
With the Bulletproof Coffee my sense of "alertness" works to the maximum, the sleep disappears as well as the sensation of hunger and my ability to focus multiplies. It's the same thing that happens to me when I drink coffee, but instead of lasting 30-40 minutes and needing almost 1 liter of filtered coffee when I go to work on my laptop ... I just need a cup of Bulletproof Coffee to be focused almost for two hours.
I also recommend only one cup a day and only in the morning, without breakfast.
The feeling of hunger disappears for about 5 hours, but then you are very hungry, so I think that as a method of weight loss is not very useful ....
In any case and against all odds it is a pleasant taste drink, not greasy and with a very pleasant softness and creaminess.
